MG4 EV to be brand’s showstopper at Auto Expo 2023

The Auto Expo 2023 will be MG Motor’s second appearance at the biennial auto show. In its previous showing, MG’s stand at the Auto Expo was decidedly focused on SUVs, with models such as the Gloster, Hector Plus and Astor making their India debut.

This time, however, MG’s hero product will be an EV, and in hatchback body style no less. The MG4 electric hatchback will be the British carmaker’s most important unveil, along with face lifted versions of the Hector and Hector Plus SUVs. Here’s a preview of all that you can expect from MG Motor at the upcoming Auto Expo 2023.

Kia Sorento 7-seater SUV to be showcased at Auto Expo 2023

The Sorento made its first India appearance at Auto Expo 2018 in its third-gen guise.

Kia will be showcasing the three-row Sorento SUV at the upcoming Auto Expo 2023. Currently in its fourth generation, which was globally unveiled in early 2020, the Sorento is essentially a cousin to the Hyundai Santa Fe. Globally, its positioned between the Kia Sportage (Tucson equivalent) and the flagship Telluride SUV.

Although a launch is not confirmed just yet, Kia will likely be showcasing the model to gauge customer interest in the three-row SUV. This, however, is not the first appearance of the SUV in India, as Kia had previously showcased the third-gen Sorento at the Auto Expo in 2018.

Kia Sorento: exterior and interior design

The fourth-gen Sorento has a familiar Kia family design, but it looks much bolder than the brand’s current crop of SUVs in India. Up front, there is Kia’s signature tiger nose grille that merges with the three-pod LED headlamps with ‘tiger eyeline’ LED DRLs. In contrast, the front bumper is smoothly sculpted and houses a large central air intake. In profile, the Sorento has a typical tall and upright SUV stance that’s accentuated by flared wheel arches. It gets vertical LED tail-lamps and a sharply sculpted tailgate at the rear.

On the inside, the Sorento bears a very close resemblance to the Sonet in India. It gets a high-mounted 10.25-inch central infotainment screen with vertical AC vents and a stack of HVAC controls positioned below. Like in the Sonet, the infotainment screen is connected to the instrument binnacle that houses a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

Kia EV9 Concept teased for Auto Expo 2023 debut

Kia has dropped its first teaser for the upcoming Auto Expo 2023, confirming that it will showcase the EV9 electric concept SUV. Kia had first showcased the EV9 electric concept at the 2021 Los Angeles Motor Show and it is only expected to hit production globally by the end of 2023.

Kia EV9 concept: design and dimensions.

The Kia EV9 measures 4,929mm in length, 2,055mm in width and 1,790mm in height, which makes it nearly as large as a Range Rover. It has a wheelbase of 3,100mm, which is also the largest that can be achieved on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) platform – the same that underpins the Kia EV6 sold in India.
As far as design is concerned, the EV9 concept will have quite a few show car attributes. The face features a new interpretation of the signature ‘tiger nose’ grille with a blanked-out panel, sporting individual LED light modules and a Z-shaped headlamp cluster. It has a boxy and upright stance with crisp lines, flat surfaces and a large glasshouse with a sharp kink post the C-pillar. The rear features quirky, vertical LED tail lamps and a pronounced bumper.

New Kia Carnival to be showcased at Auto Expo 2023

All-new Carnival gets fresh styling, SUV like looks and is expected to come with the 2.2-liter diesel engine.

Kia is set to unveil the new Carnival at the upcoming Auto Expo 2023. The fourth generation model, revealed globally in 2020, gets SUV-inspired styling and is larger than before.

  1. New Carnival gets 7-,9- and 11-seat options
  2. Gets 2.2-litre diesel engine
  3. Will rival the Toyota Innova Hycross

New Kia Carnival: fresh looks, more space

Kia has reduced the new Carnival’s front overhang, and pushed the A-pillar back to make the bonnet longer. Notable design elements along the profile include a prominent character line that runs the length of the MPV linking the head and tail-lights. It also gets a chrome fin for the C-pillar, and the A-, B- and D-pillars are finished in black, creating what Kia calls an ‘island roof’. At the rear, the Carnival gets LED tail-lights linked by a large LED light bar.
At 5,156mm in length, the new Carnival is longer than before, and significantly longer than the recently launched Toyota Innova Hycross.

New Kia Carnival: more features, multiple seating options

On the inside, the new Carnival features a more minimalist design with two 12.3-inch displays – one for the instrument cluster and another for the touchscreen infotainment taking the centre stage. The new cabin is even more practical with more storage spaces.

The new Carnival is loaded with features with higher spec variants getting features like three-zone climate control, powered front seats, wireless charger, premium sound system and safety equipment like lane departure warning, forward collision assist and multiple airbags.

In terms of seating layouts, globally, the new Carnival is offered in 7-, 9- and 11-seat configurations. The MPV has a longer wheelbase and rear overhang, translating into more space for rear rows.

Toyota GR Corolla hatchback to be showcased at Auto Expo 2023

The GR Corolla will be the first showcase of any GR-badged model in India.

The upcoming Auto Expo 2023 will be Toyota’s first appearance at the biennial auto show. And while the Innova Hycross and LC 300 will surely garner a lot of interest, enthusiasts might be piqued by the fact that Toyota is also going to showcase a GR (Gazoo Racing) model for the first time in India. Yes, Toyota will be showcasing the GR Corolla hatchback at the Auto Expo 2023.

  1. GR Corolla is powered by a 304hp, 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine
  2. Rivals the likes of Civic Type R and Golf R globally
  3. Toyota to also showcase several alternate fuel technologies at Auto Expo
While an India launch is not on the cards just yet, Toyota could use this opportunity to gauge people’s interest in GR models.

The real talking point about the GR Corolla is what’s under its hood. The hatchback is powered by 1.6-litre, three-cylinder, single-scroll turbocharged engine that produces as much as 304hp and 370Nm of peak torque – that’s nearly as powerful as a Mercedes-AMG A35 sedan with the latter having a larger 2.0-litre engine.

Toyota GR Corolla hatchback: exterior and interior

The GR Corolla gets a rally-inspired makeover over the standard hatchback that includes black trim details, a larger front grille with wider air intakes, heavily flared wheel arches, air ducts on the bumpers and fenders, a pronounced rear diffuser, sportier alloys and a prominent rear wing. That’s matched by motorsport-inspired tweaks to the cabin, including a leather-trimmed GR steering wheel, GR-badged seats and aluminum pedals.

Auto Expo 2023: Asia’s largest automobile exhibition Auto Expo 2023

SIAM which organises the Auto Expo is in negotiations with automakers to participate in Expo. It is also working on special strategies and packages, so companies take interest in Expo.

Companies have seen that there is less increase in the number of visitors compared to 2016, 2018, and 2020 which doesn’t allow them to put a big investment in the Auto Expo. Also, companies feel that the venue is far from the city and Pragati Maidan would have attracted more visitors than India Expo Mart, Greater Noida.
